If you had a brilliant piece of music premiered in the past 12 months and have the $50 application fee on hand, this might be your year. Submissions for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in Music are now being accepted. The deadline is January 15, 2009. Works must have been composed by an American and have had their American premiere between January 16, 2008, and January 15, 2009, or have been released on a publicly available recording (in which case the work should have been first performed and recorded no more than two years before its public release date). Application instructions can be found at pulitzer.org. And don’t be shy, my philistines: These days, the board “strongly urges but does not require the submission of a score.” The winner will be announced in the spring and take home all the prestige “Pultizer Prize Winner” adds to a bio and a $10,000 check.—MS
