NEWS FLASH: Cary Trust Suspends Recording Program

Effective March 22, the Mary Flagler Cary Trust has suspended the 2002 Recording Program. In previous years, the Cary Trust granted a total of $400,000 in alternating years to support New York City ensembles and nonprofit recording companies, primarily for the recording of music by living composers. In a memo issued by Gayle Morgan, the Trust Program Director, she explains the decision. “Unfortunately, due to budget restrictions, we have had to suspend the Recording Program in 2002. When we are able to reinstate the program, we shall notify prospective applicants, as we have in prior years.”

In previous years, the Cary Trust Recording Program has supported the projects of organizations such as the Composers Recordings, Inc., Speculum Musicae, New World Records, and the Jazz Composers Collective, to give only a few examples. Since its inception in 1988, the Trust’s Recording Program has dispersed grant funds totaling $2.45 million for 237 recording projects.
