Alan Fletcher

Alan Fletcher is president and CEO of the Aspen Music Festival and School, formerly Head of the School of Music at Carnegie Mellon University and Dean, Provost and Senior Vice President of the New England Conservatory of Music. Mr. Fletcher lectures nationally and internationally on music and music administration, serves on many boards, panels, juries, seminars and committees, and contributes articles and op-ed pieces to Symphony magazine, Gramophone magazine, Wall Street Journal, Sonus: Journal of Global Music, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Baltimore Sun, The Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, Chronicle of Higher Education, and many others. Mr. Fletcher is an accomplished composer. He holds doctoral and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School and a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, and has studied with distinguished composers such as Roger Sessions, Milton Babbitt, Edward T. Cone, and Paul Lansky, and pianists Robert Helps and Jacob Lateiner. He has won numerous composing awards and commissions, including recent commissions for the Pittsburgh Symphony and the National Gallery of Art.
