Chorus America/ASCAP Adventurous Programming Awards Announced

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and Chorus America have honored four choral ensembles for their adventurous programming during the 2008-2009 concert season.

The San Diego Master Chorale has been awarded the ASCAP/Alice Parker Award, presented annually to “the choral ensemble that expands the mission of the chorus by presenting challenging repertory to its audience in new ways.”

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and Chorus America have honored four choral ensembles for their adventurous programming during the 2008-2009 concert season. The awards were presented to the winning organizations on June 13 during Chorus America’s 32nd Annual Conference in Philadelphia.

The following ensembles were honored with plaques and cash awards:

All Adult Choruses (two awards):
The Crossing (Donald Nally, Conductor)
Volti (Robert Geary, Artistic Director)

Children/Youth Choruses:
Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir (Robert Geary, Artistic Director)

The ASCAP/Alice Parker Award was awarded to the San Diego Master Chorale; Gary McKercher, Music Director. This award was established in 2003 to honor legendary ASCAP choral composer and conductor, Alice Parker, in celebration of her 75th year. The award is presented annually to the choral ensemble that expands the mission of the chorus by presenting challenging repertory to its audience in new ways. (—Condensed from the press release)
