Two works inspired by poetry and birds are highlights of this program. Violinist Maureen Nelson takes center stage for Ralph Vaughan Williams’ iconic “The Lark Ascending”, based on George Meredith’s poem of the same name. The concert also features the Midwest premiere of SPCO Music Alive Composer-in-Residence Lembit Beecher’s “The Conference of the Birds”, adapted from a 12th-century Persian epic.
