The International Alliance for Women in Music will hold its annual concert at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28 in Swarthout Recital Hall. The concert will showcase compositions by nine women composers selected from an international call for scores that will be performed by the Kansas Virtuosi. Admission is free.
The featured composers, who will all be in attendance at the concert, are Jennifer Bellor, Anne Guzzo, Ellen Ruth Harrison, Jennifer Jolley, Amelia S. Kaplan, Seunghee Lee, Victoria Malawey, Tawnie Olson and Jessica Rudman. The Kansas Virtuosi, which highlights the world-class talents of KU faculty artists, will feature Hannah Collins, assistant professor of cello; Michael Compitello, assistant professor of percussion; Michael Kirkendoll, associate professor of piano; Margaret Lambie, a doctoral student in flute performance; Margaret Marco, professor of oboe; Véronique Mathieu, assistant professor of violin; Ellen Sommer, lecturer in piano; and Stephanie Zelnick, associate professor of clarinet.
The International Alliance for Women in Music (IAWM) is a global network of women and men working to increase and enhance musical activities and opportunities and to promote all aspects of women in music. The University of Kansas School of Music is hosting IAWM’s annual concert.
