G. Schirmer Signs Missy Mazzoli

Composer Missy Mazzoli has become the newest addition to G. Schirmer, Inc.‘s roster of composers.
Vice President Kristin Lancino states, “The entire team at G. Schirmer is proud to launch this partnership with the enormously gifted and imaginative composer, Missy Mazzoli.” And Mazzoli remarks, “I’m thrilled to join some of my favorite composers on the G. Schirmer roster. This is a huge milestone in my career. I feel completely supported by G. Schirmer and look forward to the years of music-making ahead.”
Mazzoli began her musical career with studies at the Yale School of Music, the Royal Conservatory of the Hague and Boston University. She is the recipient of four ASCAP Young Composer Awards and a Fulbright Fellowship, as well as grants from the Jerome Foundation, the American Music Center, and the Barlow Endowment. In 2006 Missy taught composition in the Music Department of Yale University, and from 2007-2010 was Executive Director of the MATA Festival in New York City, an organization dedicated to promoting the work of young composers.
Mazzoli’s music has been performed internationally by the Kronos Quartet, eighth blackbird, the American Composers Orchestra, New York City Opera, the Minnesota Orchestra, the South Carolina Philharmonic, NOW Ensemble and featured on numerous festivals including the Bang-on-a-Can New Music Marathon, the Cabrillo Festival (Santa Cruz), the Gaudeamus New Music Festival (Amsterdam), the Ecstatic Music Festival (New York) and many others. In additional to teaching, Mazzoli is an active pianist, and often performs with Victoire, an “all-star, all-female quintet” she founded in 2008 dedicated exclusively to her own compositions.
Upcoming projects include the spring, 2012 premiere of her first multimedia chamber opera, Song from the Uproar, at The Kitchen (New York). In 2011 she will premiere a new orchestral work, performed by the League of Composer’s Chamber Orchestra at New York’s Miller Theater, as well as a new solo work for violinist Jennifer Koh commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Missy was also recently commissioned by Carnegie Hall, Bard College Conservatory, and the Whitney Museum of Art.
