Scratch That: Glance Back, Look Ahead

Scratch That: Glance Back, Look Ahead

Favorite 2012 musical moment:

My “favorite moment” is a “tie” between the performance of my American Howl Quartet at DePaul in November and the recording of my five Songs of Destruction with soprano Leila Bowie last summer. It is my hope to get American Howl Quartet performed again, perhaps this spring, and then take it into the recording studio. The songs, though started in the 1970s as part of my anti-Vietnam War protest, were dropped until 2007, and then “rediscovered” and finished. I have been told they will be released on a CD sponsored by DePaul University.

New Year’s Resolution:

My new year resolution is the same each year–don’t stop writing and performing.

Looking forward to in 2013:

First, to complete a set of songs that set the poetry of selected contemporary Chicago poets and get them performed under the auspices of the new Poetry Foundation; second, to complete the editing of my recorded music for my next Southport Composers CD, called Remembering; and third, to learn and perform my just completed piano solo Into the Night (a nocturnal fantasy), hopefully at my January 20 Green Mill concert.
