Helga Davis is the 2019 winner of the Greenfield Prize. It includes a $30,000 commission for a new piece to be completed over the next two years and a residency at the Hermitage Artist Retreat.
The three jurors included Limor Tomer (jury chair), who runs the concert and lectures series at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, WQXR classical music radio host Terrance McKnight, and Karen Sander, former artistic and executive director of the World Music Institute and the director of public programs for the Graduate Center at the City University of New York.
The Greenfield Prize was established in 2009 through the Hermitage by the late philanthropist Bob Greenfield. It rotates annually among playwrights, composers, and visual artists. Previous music winners include Eve Beglarian, Vijay Iyer, and Bobby Previte.
