Tania León and Yuval Sharon Among Musical America’s 2017 Movers & Shapers

Musical America has announced the results of its worldwide audience vote for the 30 Professionals of the Year who are shaping the performing arts landscape for the future. “From Carnegie Hall to the Crazy Horse Memorial in South Dakota, from Omaha Performing Arts to the Really Spicy Opera of the Twin Cities, these are the people redefining and driving the performing arts towards a future shaped by their vision.” Among the people honored this year are: Tania León, composer, conductor and the founding artistic director of Composers Now; Yuval Sharon, the founder and artistic director of The Industry in Los Angeles; Alex Ross, music critic for The New Yorker and the author of the book, The Rest Is Noise; percussionist Bob Becker of Nexus who is also a composer and arranger; and Elena Dubinets, the vice president of artistic planning for the Seattle Symphony, who has been a huge advocate for new music at the orchestra.
